The Craft Story
These placemats are handcrafted in Briceño, Boyacá, Colombia, by master artisan Luz Marina Umaña. Fique agave has been used for generations in Colombia — traditionally for durable fibres such as coffee sacks — and is now transformed into refined homewares through intricate hand-crocheting techniques.
Each fibre is sustainably harvested from native agave plants and carefully woven by hand into structured forms. This process reflects centuries of Indigenous knowledge and innovation, creating pieces that are both functional and deeply connected to the land.
