The Craft Story

The Sombrero Popayán is crafted in the Zenú regions of Córdoba and Sucre, where Caña Flecha weaving has been practised for over 500 years. Artisans from the Sombrero Vueltiao Association carefully harvest, split and soften the native cane before weaving each piece by hand using ancestral techniques.

With 19 finely interwoven fibres, the result is a flexible yet structured form that holds its shape while remaining lightweight. Recognised as part of Colombia’s cultural heritage, this intricate process cannot be replicated by machines — ensuring every sombrero carries its own unique identity.

Product Care:

• Avoid leaving your hat in hot environments such as inside a car
• If wet, gently shake off excess water and allow it to air dry in the shade
• Do not expose to direct heat or direct sun drying
• After use in very dry heat, lightly mist with water and allow fibres to rehydrate
• Travel care: designed to be rolled for packing — fold and roll gently without pressure, and allow it to rest after unrolling to regain its natural shape
